Disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner has claimed Donald Trump is unlikely to return to the White House.

Speaking to TalkTV's Piers Morgan, the former Democrat played down the prospect of a second Trump presidency and claimed the Republican party are not enthusiastic about his chances of beating Joe Biden.

"The party of Donald Trump is not a successful party and I see no reason it will change this year," he said.

"Biden beat Trump pretty easily three years ago. It's hard to see how Donald Trump improves his chances, being under indictment by the American people in 91 instances. It doesn’t seem that even his own party is that enthusiastic about him returning.

"If you look at every time Donald Trump ran, in 2016 he lost the popular vote, in 2018 his party got shellacked, in 2020 his party lost by seven million votes, in 2022 in the midterms, where Republicans should have done amazingly, they got squashed."

It comes after Donald Trump secured a resounding victory in the first 2024 Republican presidential contest in Iowa on Monday.

The former President won by an unprecedented margin, where, with 95% of the expected vote tallied, Trump had 51%, while Ron DeSantis was at 21% and Nikki Haley 19%.

On the indictments against Trump, Weiner said: "This is an important civic moment for the United States of America to test this theory that no one is above the law.”

Donald Trump cruised to victory in the Iowa caucus cementing his status as the clear Republican frontrunner.

In 2016, Weiner was caught sending lewd text messages to an underage girl. He later pleaded guilty to transferring obscene material to a minor and was sentenced to 21 months in prison.

Previously married to a top aide to Hillary Clinton, he resigned from Congress in 2011 after accidentally tweeting a crotch-shot of himself in his underwear.

He told Piers: "It cost me my career, my life, my family, cost me my liberty. The lowest moment was when someone sold pictures to the papers of me with my son, which was obviously very difficult to see.

Anthony Weiner was sentenced to 21 months in prison for sexting a minor.

Wiener's wife, Huma Abedin, said her ex-husband's sex scandals were like someone stamping on her heart

"The harm that I did so many people - frankly, it was long before I went to prison, I hit my rock bottom and have since entered recovery."

When Piers revealed Weiner's ex-wife Huma Abedin recently described his deceit like someone "stamping," he said: "That's very hard to hear. Of all the people on the list of amends I need to make, hers is one I’m going to have to live with for the rest of my life.

"We share a child, we see each other about every day. She is one of my biggest supporters and hopefully I’m one of her biggest supporters. In a way we are closer than we have ever been.”
