Harry and Meghan's birthday phone call with King Charles a 'turning point' in the family's feud as couple show eagerness to maintain contact

A phone call from Prince Harry to King Charles could mark a turning point in their strained relationship, according to reports.

The call was made hours after a 75th birthday party for the King was held at Clarence House for his extended family and close friends, which Harry did not attend.

Buckingham Palace declined to comment on the “private” call, but it is reported that Harry and Meghan had a “warm” conversation with Charles.

They even reportedly played him a video of his grandchildren, four-year-old Prince Archie and two-year-old Princess Lilibet singing Happy Birthday.

Speaking to TalkTV's Nicola Thorp and Jeremy Kyle, Royal Editor Sarah Hewson said: "There may be signs of a truce or some kind of early stages of reconciliation between Harry and Megan, and King Charles following that phone call last week. But in the wider family, there are much bigger issues here.

"If you're going to start rebuilding those relationships, it's all about trust. The problem is, it's out in the public domain.

"This is one of the biggest issues for the royal family. If they're going to repair the damage done they can't have it all over the paper."

In the wake of the bitter fallout after their Oprah interview, their Netflix documentary, and the publication of Harry’s memoir, the phone call reportedly suggests the couple are eager to maintain contact with the grandfather their children hardly know.

As a source close to Charles said recently: “It frustrates him that personal issues intrude on the public duty. He’d much rather the focus was on his work, not the soap opera of the private life.

"It is always frustrating when family dynamics overshadow the public role.”

The King has never spent a Christmas with Archie and Lili, nor, it is thought, any significant time with them.

The phone call came following Meghan's appearance at the Variety Power of Women event in Los Angeles on Thursday evening where she said she was 'thrilled' to return to the entertainment industry.

The couple were also recently criticised by Meghan's half sister Samantha Markle, who accused the couple of "paying PR to say whatever they want to shape social perception".
