'It's a rubbish card if you ask me' David Bull slates Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Christmas card that excludes their children

Monday 18 December 2023

TalkTV's Dr David Bull shared his disapproval of Harry and Meghan's Christmas card, which has been deemed controversial because of its exclusion of the couple's children.

In conversation with royals expert Kinsey Schofield, David said: "It's a lot more 'me me me', isn't it?

"It's a rubbish Christmas card if you ask me."

Kinsey said: "There was just a lack of enthusiasm when it came to fan reception.

"I think that most royal watchers look forward to these cards every year because it's also a milestone to see how much these beautiful royal babies have grown up.

"Even American media commented on the fact that Harry and Megan chose not to include Lily and Archie, curious about how they're growing and what they look like today."

Instead of opting for a family photo, the Sussexes chose one from the closing ceremony of the 2023 Invictus Games, which took place in September in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Harry wore a black suit with a black dress shirt, while Meghan wore a green strapless dress with floral details as they smiled and clapped.

The virtual greeting, reportedly sent by email, included a message reading: "On behalf of the office of Prince Harry & Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Archewell Productions and Archewell Foundation, we wish you a very happy holiday season."

The card also sends "thanks for all the support in 2023."

Last year’s card was the first time the couple revealed a picture of their second child, Lilibet, now aged two, who was held in the air by her smiling mother as a delighted Harry admired her.

Meanwhile, the Prince and Princess of Wales released a relaxed, black and white family photo for their Christmas card this year.

It showed the pair beaming into the camera alongside their sons Prince George, 10, Prince Louis, five and Princess Charlotte, eight, who is sat in a chair at the front of the group.

Harry and Meghan revealed this year’s card on the day of the Duke of Sussex’s partial victory in his High Court phone-hacking claim, when a judge ruled his phone was probably hacked “to a modest extent” by the publisher Mirror Group Newspapers.

The card also came following the couple's release of a new video promoting the impact of their Archewell Foundation, after the charity faced a multi-million pound drop in funding.

The foundation experienced a drop of 11 million dollars (£8.8 million) in funding between 2021 and 2022, then an increase of three million dollars this year to five million dollars (£4 million) – although this is still eight million dollars (£6.4 million) below the first year’s income.

The one-minute montage shows Meghan hugging people, volunteering at a pop-up baby boutique she staged for expectant mothers experiencing homelessness, and surprise calling a young entrepreneur alongside Harry.

The round-up of the Sussexes’ year was embedded on the Archewell website as part of the charity’s Impact Report 2022-23.

It was released shortly after Kensington Palace issued footage on Monday of the Princess of Wales helping out at a baby bank with her children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
