Florida teacher left unconscious

A 17-year-old student has been arrested for a savage attack on a teacher's aide after she confiscated his Nintendo Switch console.

Surveillance at Florida's Matanzas High School shows the 6ft 6in student lunge at his victim outside the classroom knocking her to the ground.

The film shows him repeatedly punching and kicking her before school employees came to her rescue. Officials said the woman was taken to hospital with leaving her unconscious with broken ribs.

Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly told FOX35: "The actions of this student are absolutely horrendous and completely uncalled for," adding the boy had been arrested for felony aggravated battery with bodily harm.

In the classroom, the student said he would "beat up" the woman every time she took away his console and threatened to kill her, according to the arrest report.

The aide has been released from hospital with broken ribs and significant bruising but the Sheriff's Office do not know the full extent of her injuries.

The Office said: "I believe she will be out of work for at least several weeks, if she even plans on returning."

In an arrest video recorded by a School Resource Officer's body camera, the student asked "Am I going to jail?" to which the deputy replies, "Yes, you are."

The student was taken to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility before being transferred to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
