VIDEO: Police pull speeding driver from burning vehicle after crash at Virginia Beach

A police officer pulled a driver from a burning vehicle after he crashed into a tree in Virginia Beach.

Footage from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) shows the officer recording a passing car driving at 88mph in a 35mph zone.

After giving chase, he discovered it had crashed into a tree and burst into flames.

As smoke billows from the vehicle, the officer tries to break the window to extinguish the fire.

After a second officer arrives they mange to break the window and pull the driver to safety. The man was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

Police said the driver turned off his lights and sped off to try and "elude the officer."

VBPD commended the officers for their bravery and commitment, and said: "They put themselves in great peril to rescue this individual."
