Caught on camera: Police horse chases driver using phone at the wheel

Mounted police chased down a driver using his phone at the wheel amid a nationwide clampdown on motorists using a device while driving.

Two mounted officers took after the driver who was spotted on his phone in Taunton. After being told he should not be using his phone, he replied: “No, no music. I have problem”.

The officer replied: “But you’re driving and you’re on the phone and I can see there’s a phone call ongoing.”

It comes as police across the country are working to target drivers using hand held devices.

Avon and Somerset Police are involved in a mobile phone enforcement operation led by the National Police Chiefs’ Council over the next three weeks.

The force reported more than 4,500 fatal or injury collisions on Avon and Somerset roads since the beginning of 2021.
